Now we’re at the final way you can get content into DEVONthink To Go, from within the app by pressing the small + sign in the bottom left corner. Adding Content from Within DEVONthink To Go I’ll cover exactly what I did when I talk about capturing content with DEVONthink 3 for macOS in the coming weeks. If you’ve got a way to download a video like this, I’d love to know about it. For this I ended up back on macOS with Downie()] which meant I synced back tho 8GB video file to my DEVONthink To Go library. There has been at least one recent piece of content that I couldn’t find a way to download from iOS, the 2019 WWDC keynote. I do plan to go back and listen to the audio and add timestamps to various parts but that doesn’t always happen as I envision so I want some searchable content right away. One thing I always do to start with audio is to add any text from the page as a comment so that it’s searchable in some fashion. The download dialogue that iCab presents you with From there it’s simply a matter of sharing the file into DEVONthink To Go. Then I can long press on the audio player and iCab will give me the ability to download the file. Then I click the download button which opens up the file in another tab. Let’s use this great interview of Neil Gaiman done by Tim Ferriss as an example.įirst I view the page. Unfortunately this is another place that Safari in iOS 12 falls apart and I have to resort to iCab to be able to click said download button and get the audio file. Unfortunately Google wants you to pay to download them, but there is a helpful shortcut to get around this limitation.īy using the shortcut below with a valid YouTube URL you’ll get an MP4 file that you can import into your DEVONthink To Go library.įor podcasts I want to keep a copy of I’m usually in luck in that most podcast players on the web also have a download button. There are some great video talks out there and many of them are on YouTube. Your PDF will download and then ask you where you want it saved Downloading Audio and Video to DEVONthink To Go This opens up the regular import box with it’s PDF options. Click their button to download the full text PDF and then use the Share Sheet to send the PDF directly to DEVONthink To Go. For most sites that have open research like PubMed this is fairly easy. Importing Research Papers and Files to DEVONthink To GoĪnother thing I regularly import is PDF research papers. While DEVONthink 3 will OCR the PDF’s so that they’re searchable by DEVONthink To Go I like knowing that the comments have data to index as well just in case the OCR doesn’t happen for some reason. I capture the PDF and then copy the book description from the Amazon page and paste it into the comment on the note. To get around this I leverage iOS’s ability to make PDF’s. In Safari on iOS, you get a bit more but still nothing useful. From Firefox on iOS, you get a Bookmark no matter what you choose. I always have problems capturing pages on Amazon to file away books that sounded interesting. Read the comment by Paul on how to do it within DEVON think. Now even with all these options some pages are problematic to capture. You simply copy the script into a text file, save it, open the Scripts folder in DEVON think (there is a Scroll Icon between “Window” and “Help”, select “Open Scripts Folder”, go into the “Scripts” folder in the Finder window, create a subdirectory (e.g., “Tagging”), copy the file there, then you only need to select “Update the Scripts Menu” in DEVON think again.Īfterwards, you can select multiple files, go to the Scroll Icon again, select your script, and enter it. However, John Sidiropoulos from A Digital Workflow for Academic Research has written a great AppleScript that easily allows you to add tags to multiple files even if these files already have tags that are not the same: Add tags to many DEVONthink items at the same time. Might be useful for some purposes, but in many cases (especially if you tag the files later) it is very inconvenient. Great for literature (to_read, read, topics, articles_for_paper_x, etc.), images (subjects, quality, etc., see Aperture for some ideas), video, and much more.ĭEVON think itself has one huge disadvantage regarding tagging - when you want to tag multiples files that already have tags, DEVON think does not allow you to assign tags (instead you get the message “Multiple Selection” in the tag field). Whereas it does not support hierarchical tags (like Sente or Aperture does), it is useful nonetheless. It isn’t the mountains ahead that wear you out, it’s the grain of sand in your shoe.ĭEVON think has a lot of useful features, one of them is tagging.

As part of our trauma-informed teacher training, we ask people to share a safe experience they have had in yoga and an unsafe experience. Gwen: I would say the most significant lesson that I have learned is to not assume what students are experiencing on their mat. What have you learned from becoming a trauma-sensitive yoga teacher? What has surprised you? There are many different styles of yoga and yoga teaching, and it is your choice what works for you. Also, always remember that you are not committed to staying in or returning to a class where you are uncomfortable. Even if she is comfortable with touch, the idea that her word counts can empower a survivor greatly. This can create a safer space on the mat where a survivor’s consent to touch matters. I would also consider finding a studio that asks for permission before physically adjusting students. You can find out a lot from researching online to find what might work for you. Melissa: Find out what you can about the type of yoga taught and the teacher leading the class beforehand. What is important for them to know or ask for when they come to a yoga class? What should they do to make sure they feel supported? So many trauma survivors are turning to yoga for healing. When a trauma survivor engages in a yoga practice, in a way that is safe for them, yoga can help process the traumatic energy held inside. So is trauma something that affects mind-body-spirit. You use all of those to practice yoga, and each is affected by the yoga practice. Melissa: Yoga is often considered a mind-body-spirit activity. How is yoga helpful for those who’ve experienced trauma? They are incredibly dedicated to trauma-informed yoga instruction, and train yoga teachers in how to teach trauma-informed classes. In an effort to provide information for trauma survivors and yoga teachers, I spoke with Gwen Soffer and Melissa Lucchesi. They may even be discovering their trauma for the first time on the mat. With so many people in our city experiencing trauma, and so many folks getting out to community yoga classes, it’s possible that trauma survivors are turning to community classes and yoga studios for release. Yoga is used in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is an evidence-based treatment for trauma. In addition, the mental health community is recognizing yoga as a helpful method for therapeutic healing. Yoga studios seem to be popping up on every corner. Donation-based classes are wildly popular with anywhere from 30-80 folks showing up for community yoga sessions at the Race Street Pier and Schuylkill Banks. In the city of Philadelphia, 37% of residents report having four or more “Adverse Childhood Events” that predispose them to post-traumatic symptoms.1 Concurrently, yoga in our City of Brotherly Love is booming. But in a very real way, yoga was the critical gateway to accessing the care I needed. “Yoga saved my life” can be a tired statement at this point. I then reached out to a therapist I trusted, and was able to begin doing the work to heal myself. I wasn’t able to remember or articulate what had happened to me, but through yoga movement, I began to access the deeply repressed emotions associated with the trauma. What I didn’t realize then was that I had experienced a traumatic event and had repressed the memories and emotions that stemmed from the trauma. An otherwise happy morning could turn into an experience where I was confronting difficult emotions. I’d feel this “wave” of sadness or anger wash over me, and I had no idea where it came from. When I began to practice this way, I started to have strong emotional reactions while doing yoga. Two years in, I became more dedicated to yoga and started doing a more intensive yoga practice (Ashtanga) for a few hours a day. When I started practicing yoga, I felt really good. And then nothing as the game ends and the credits roll.Ī secret level is playable by collecting a missing child poster 3 times during the course of the game, the name of the child being Charles Matheson Jr. The secret level is a series of distorted rooms in which Lauren is trying to go to another room but instead gets teleported to another room. And before long, the camera is shown the view of Lauren's legs vanishing slowly from view as her body is dragged away. Navigating the hallways, Lauren comes face to face with her friend, and a single attempt to get any closer results in her ultimate demise as a sudden switch from Kate to The Chaser in a single instant. She finds, however, she is back in the burnt house from the prologue, replaced by the crying of Kate. She looks again and Charlie is gone, allowing access to the upper floor. Exploration instincts kick in and Lauren finds a nearly burnt notebook and one last printed email from CR. Attempting to rush up the stairs will be obviously hindered. A quick inspection of the room, gives her a close look at Charlie, who is guarding the stairs that lead up to the rest of the mysterious setting. Waking up in a basement, Lauren finds herself with an almost dead camera battery. The camera, near dead, begins to flash of incoherent shapes and loud noises while the decaying figure is Charles Matheson Jr. The fire near the door where Lauren entered is blown out, and the door can be heard opening and footsteps are heard. After a while, a woman, presumably Kate, starts laughing. CR then says sorry to someone, and starts screaming. Kate screams that she can't, and runs away. As Lauren plays the audio on the camera, she hears CR trying to convince Kate to do something, most likely commit suicide with him, as evidenced by note No. Lauren walks to the end of the hall where the charred corpse of a man, presumed to be CR, is lying next to a video camera. The leading door slams behind her and as she reads the writing etched on the wall, she realizes that Kate is going to be the one to kill her-that the voice of her only real friend has told her to do it (it is presumed that this friend is the Slender Man, who has warped her mind and driven her insane). After finding it, footsteps can be heard and Lauren is forced to proceed to a dead-end hallway. Ahead lies a locked door, where a key must be found to unlock it. A loud pounding is heard, presumably the Slender Man having just been locked out behind her and trying to get in. As she enters the tower, the door slams shut. Along the way she dodges flames, falling trees, and a very aggressive Slender Man. She charges toward the radio tower that she thinks will save her from the Slender Man. When you enter the door, the screen goes black, and 'Slender: The Arrival' logo appears, and then the game proceeds to the Eight Pages.Īfter the flashback ends, Lauren makes her way up the mountain and through a cave, where she realizes the surrounding forest has been set on fire. In the Steam Update, there's a book with sketches, and then there's a door. When at last she arrives at the entrance to Oakside Park, she enters the area and the level transitions. As she goes to see who she is dealing with, the camera flickers several images and then the figure is gone. He is decayed and starved of all recognizable features. Investigation discovers Charles Matheson Jr. standing in a single corner. Lauren finds a burnt house near the end of her trip, black and lifeless. A burning presence presses down on her, as if she isn't completely alone. Lauren goes to investigate, and finds three generators along the way. After picking up this paper, Lauren hears a long, drawn-out scream coming from the woods behind Kate's house. Inside, she sees walls textured entirely with drawings and scratchings of Kate's, hinting that the way to safety involves reaching a radio tower visible in the distance. In searching, Lauren finds a key which allows her to unlock Kate's bedroom upstairs. Lauren also finds many drawings and wall-scratchings hinting at the Slender Man. She investigates the house to find it very disheveled-furniture is strewn about, windows are open, etc. Once making it to Kate's home, Lauren finds that she is not there. On the way, Lauren passes another car (perhaps owned by CR, but this is never confirmed). The game starts out when the main character's ( Lauren's) Volvo is parked at the head of Kate's driveway, stopped by a fallen tree. The 65W USB Type-C AC adapter is one of the smallest and lightest we’ve ever seen, as illustrated in figure 4. In addition to reduced power consumption, the ThinkStation P52s also benefits from a very compact power supply. The Nvidia Quadro P500 (2GB) GPU offers similar savings with an 18W TDP compared to the respective 40W and 50W of the Quadro P1000 and Quadro P2000. This is one third of what you’d find in a typical mobile workstation, although power consumption can go a bit higher at peak loads. The Intel Core i7-8650U CPU is a very low power quad core processor, with a thermal design power (TDP) of 15W. Lenovo has also chosen the CPU and GPU very carefully to minimize power usage. Packing out the machine with multiple cells is not the only way the ThinkPad P52s achieves such good battery life. The good news is you can pick and choose your batteries, depending on your power needs as spares only cost about £70. The downside of the 6-cell (72Wh) external battery is its size, which makes it protrude from the machine. This might not be the top spec, but it still managed to last an impressive 235mins in the demanding PCMark OpenCL media battery test which continually hammers both CPU and GPU. Our test machine came with a front 4-cell (32Wh) and a rear 3-cell (24Wh) battery. The machine will keep running on the integrated battery. Simply shut the lid, flip the switch and pull it out. You can even ‘hot swap’ the external battery without having to power down. In contrast, most other mobile workstations only have a single battery that is completely built in.Īs the rear battery can be easily swapped out, battery life can be extended even further by carrying a spare in your laptop bag. The laptop achieves this, not through one but two Li-Ion batteries: an integrated front 4-cell (32Wh) battery, as well as a removeable rear battery which comes in a choice of three different capacities – 3-cell (24Wh), 6-cell (48Wh), or 6-cell (72Wh). Its latest model, the ThinkPad P52s, should run all day long without having to plug into the mains, even when running 3D CAD. Lenovo chose a different tack for its slimline 15-inch mobile workstation, making battery life the number one priority. HP then followed suit in 2015 with the similarly specced HP ZBook Studio. The stylish laptop was thinner and lighter than anything that had come before but it still delivered the goods for 3D CAD thanks to its mid-range Nvidia Quadro GPU. The ThinkPad P52s has a 15.6-inch display and a backlit keyboard with numeric keypadĭell transformed the 15-inch mobile workstation in 2013 with the launch of the Precision M3800. His moves largely mimic those of friendly Ryu, though there are a couple new moves that make this evil variant even more exciting to play.īut just when I thought that Evil Ryu was the best new addition, Oni steals the show. He's fully engulfed in flames and looks like he just came off the set of the most recent Mortal Kombat game. Evil Ryu is one of the most visually pleasing fighters in the game. His name is Evil Ryu and he seemingly mixes the character we all know and love with Akuma. Although these two fighters do not have much in the way of projectiles to throw, they have little problem racing from each side of the stage.Īrcade Edition also includes a new variation on Street Fighter's most popular character. Yang (the one with the spiked hair) races in on rollerblades and uses a punch so powerful that it literally paints a blue line on the screen (similar to Strider Hiryu's attacks in Marvel vs. Yun (the one with the hat) can leap around the stage linking powerful combinations together with his special moves. Although these two have similar looks and style, they're different enough to be considered two unique characters. The new characters include Yun and Yang, two spry fighters who were originally cast in Street Fighter III. However, part of me wishes Capcom would have gone a little further with this third (and final?) release. As an expansion pack, Arcade Edition has a nice amount of content for the right price. Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition is a modest update, one that adds some balancing tweaks, a few new modes for online multiplayer and four classic characters. You can complain all you want about yearly iterations on sequels, but clearly Capcom has learned at least one less in the last two decades. But before you sharpen your daggers, keep in mind that the newest update is nothing more than a $15 add-on (which is also available in stores for gamers who missed out on last year's model). In that time we've seen the release of Super Street Fighter IV and now the Arcade Edition. It's been two years since the company re-energized the fighting game market with the phenomenal Street Fighter IV. Here we are twenty years later and some might argue that Capcom hasn't learned their lesson. It turned the company into a punchline and sucked a lot of the excitement out of the franchise. We got Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, Turbo, Super and even Super Turbo. Instead of giving players what they demanded, Capcom opted to release incremental updates to their 1991 hit. It took the king of fighters a staggering six years to go from Street Fighter II: The World Warriors to Street Fighter 3: New Generation. It wasn't that long ago that Capcom was the company that couldn't count to three. |
